August 20th

Read: Isaiah 60:1-3 and Matthew 5:16

A windless night on the lake where we lived was a beautiful sight. Each light on the opposite shore and on the hills above it became a part of the pattern of light reflected in the water. A boat’s running lights would show reflected red or green to add to the picture. During the Fourth of July celebration, when each landowner lighted a flare on the shore, there would be a circle of fire reflected in the water. Any aerial fireworks were also reflected there. The unruffled water was the mirror.

If we desire to reflect Christ in our lives, they too must be unruffled. When storms push in or the winds of adversity, we must ask Jesus to say, “Peace be still,” so that His reflection
will not be distorted as others view us.

REFLECTIONS
A tranquil calm upon dark lake
Doth faithful mirror image make
Of bright lights, each becoming pair
In geometric pattern there.

Oh Christ, help me unruffled be
That I might mirror light for Thee.
Teach me to show in placid poise
Reflections of Thy way’s bright joys.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to live tranquilly so that I give a faithful reflection of You.
