Read: Psalm 37:1-11; Psalm 55:1-8
When David the King wrote the passage in Psalm 55, he was grieving over false friends and wishing himself out of the hard situation, a mistake many of us make. In a physical sense our immediate circumstances often push us to this same brink, but there is no escape by running away.
In the spiritual sense, however, our souls are able so to delight in the Lord that we soar free from the oppression of circumstance in our hearts and minds. We are able to get up with God on those eagles’ wings which He speaks about in Isaiah 40:31. The Dove (of the Holy Spirit) of peace lifts us above the storms.
THE DOVE
Steeped in Thy Word,
Endowed with Thy love,
By Thy Spirit stirred,
My soul is a dove
Surmounting in flight
World’s gravity pull,
A-wing with delight,
Sustained, powerful.
As flood waters roll
My clamorings cease,
For there in my soul
Is Thy blessed peace.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for Your power and for showing me how to delight in You.
