December 21st

Read: Luke 2:1-7, 15-16

Sometimes the sights and sounds and smells of the first Christmas seem to be real to me. They are so different from our church experiences these days. I can see a young couple painfully making their way to Bethlehem and being turned away at the inn. I can hear the clip-clop of donkey’s hooves and sense the concern with which Joseph helped Mary to find a comfortable birthing place in that stable. I can hear the stomping of cows as they moved about at this intrusion and the rustle of hay or straw as Jesus was laid to sleep in the manger after his birth. Somehow, in spirit, I was there!

LISTENING, LISTENING
Listening, listening,
Now I hear
Whispering, whispering
On my ear.
Harkening, harkening!
“Hear,” they say,
“Jesus the Savior is
Born this day.”

Following, following!
Now I go
Worshipping, worshipping,
Bending low.
Entering, entering
In the stall,
Wondering, wondering
At it all.

Joyfully, joyfully
Through the night
Angel songs tell of the
Wondrous sight.
Thundering, thundering
In my soul,
Praising Him, praising Him,
Songs extol.

Following, following
All the way
Down through the ages His
Star’s bright ray.
Worshipping, worshipping
Savior, King.
Christmas is coming! Our
Gifts we bring

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to worship and praise You properly this Christmas.
