Read: Romans 7:15-25; Ephesians 4:17-32; 2 Corinthians 5:17
My friend, Sharon Karle, wrote to me while we were in England with the suggestion for this poem …
THE ENEMY HAS AN ALLY IN MY HEART
The enemy has an ally in my heart!
‘Tis SELF who speaks up first when troubles start.
SELF tells me, “It’s unfair.”
Or, “God’s not really there.”
Yes, the enemy has an ally in my heart!
The enemy has an ally in my heart!
SELF steps up front when plans all fall apart.
He hates it when I share,
And he tells me, “Folks don’t care.”
Yes, the enemy has an ally in my heart!
But, praise the Lord that Jesus sees me through.
He always knows the loving thing to do.
He’s Victor everywhere,
And He helps me ‘all things bear’.
Oh, I praise the Lord that Jesus sees me through.
We all have trouble with SELF. Paul called that part of us the ‘ old man’ in Ephesians 4, and the ‘flesh’ in Romans 7. Because we are new creatures in Christ and He has been given authority over all flesh, we need not listen or give heed to the enemy’s ally when he jumps up to get his way in our lives. Christ has victory for us even over selfishness.
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help me to have victory in the areas where SELF clamors to be heard in my life.
