Read: Psa. 5:1-3; Heb. 12:2; Luke 21:27-28

When John and I lived in London on our tour of duty, we wondered why so many folks walked with their eyes down. After we had walked upon the streets with their small paving stones set upon loose sand, we understood that one must do that or risk falling.

In our spiritual walk we are more apt to fall when we don’t look up and keep our eyes on Jesus … just the opposite of walking on London streets. Circumstances are apt to draw our eyes away from Him, and we get into trouble when that occurs.

LOOKING UP
As you travel life’s road, that uneven way,
‘Tis wise not to look at your feet,
For the eyes that look down at the path every day
See only the trouble they meet.

They see only rockfalls and chasms ahead
And stumbling blocks spread all around;
They see only pitfalls and know only dread
On a dark path where troubles abound.

But the folks who look up to high-arching skies
Beyond world’s horizon to gaze,
The ones who keep looking into Jesus’ eyes,
Never know that they walk through a maze.

They see only vistas of beauty and light,
High bridges to span chasms deep;
They follow the Starshine e’en on darkest night,
Trusting Him on the mountainside steep;

And somehow the pathway is crooked no more;
And somehow they know not dismay;
And somehow their feet over obstacles soar
As they look up and He leads the way.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, I trust You to carry me over the rough places of life. Please, Lord, keep my eyes set on You.
