June 23rd

Read: Psa. 19:1-6 and Genesis 3:8

Quiet moments with God can occur at any time of day. Early morning has been my favorite time for such moments, but the evening hours, when the day slows for me, often take me aback in their overwhelming loveliness, and they take me close to God. I remember one night when my husband John and I shared a few moments counting stars as they appeared one by one. On another we watched the glory of the aurora borealis while our breath steamed into the cold air. All the burdens of the day are minimized in the Presence of God in His creation at such times. Even the beauty of a garden can bring Him near.

NOCTURNE
I come alone.
Evening’s garden lies await
My soul to calm.
The rose, full-blown,
Doth all with beauty consummate,
Its scent a balm.

Stars crust the sky.
The crystal fountain whispers there
To hush a bird.
When God comes by,
Every sense becomes a prayer,
And I am heard.

His peace, distilled,
Drops upon my fevered brow,
My anguished heart,
Until I’m filled.
Troubled thoughts elude somehow
And fears depart.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for the memorable and peaceful moments spent with You in enjoying Your creation. Help me to seek You early and late on every day of my life.
