November 15th

Read: Matthew 5:45; Isaiah 55:8-10; Lev. 26:3-6; Job 5:8-10

There may have been a time in your life when abundant rain was not a blessing! I have known a couple of floods. We all would agree, however, that without abundant rain, crops fail, flowers do not bloom, wells go dry, and man must seek ways to accommodate water’s lack. Out here in the southwest, men irrigate as they do in Egypt and in all of the Holy Land. We have seen the effect in Africa of long droughts on whole populations. Rain is one of God’s great blessings given to us by His great love.

BLESSED RAIN
Blessed rain
Falling to assuage Earth’s thirst,
Filling her pores with life-renewing stream,
Blessed rain,
Drawing forth buds to burst,
NoTo bloom under sunshine’s warm sustaining beam.

Blessed rain
Washing the fields afresh,
Brighting their dusty crops to verdant green
Blessed rain,
Cooling the fevered flesh,
Soothing and laving dirt-stained skin pristine.

Blessed rain,
Filling the springhead’s rush,
Starting the freshet on it’s plunging fall.
Blessed rain,
Bringing to forest’s hush
A whispered greeting from God, Creator of all.

Prayer: Dear God, help me to appreciate Your blessed rain.
