February 17th

Read: Psalm 19:1-14; Genesis 6:5-6; Ephesians 4:30-32

Imagination is a precious gift as long as it leads us towards God and His goodness. Looking at the sky usually activates my imagination. Clouds become galleons floating on a blue sea. Stars seen to sing light just for me. Sunsets put me in awe of God’s palette. I can almost see His brush reaching across the horizon.

Eyesight is another precious gift, one which enables us to see the beauty of His creation and also the things in it that grieve Him … war, poverty, inhumanity, selfishness, corruption. Perhaps my imagination should also be employed to create ways to alleviate some of these things which grieve Him so.

REVERIE ON THE SHORE

The waves are gaily dancing
Like circus ponies prancing,
Bedecked with silver harnesses
And white and flowing plumes.
The blue skies are romancing
White clouds, with sunbeams glancing
Their titillating promises
Of rainbow-bannered rooms.

With such my senses filling
I found my spirit willing
To step across Earth’s boundary
Into sweet fancy’s place,
Where, far from crowds a-milling,
God’s beauteous draught came spilling
To sweeten more my reverie
With knowledge of His grace.

Prayer: Please, God, sanctify my imagination and open my eyes to see everything You desire me to see.
