February 20th
Read: 1 Chronicles 16:8-12 and Psalm 35:9
Being joyful on a gloomy day must be conscious effort on my part. I thrive on sunshine. I really have to apply mind over matter on gray days and must remember that the sun will reappear sooner or later. I keep my ‘sunny hours’ memory honed for just such times. I remember working with my grandmother in her flower garden or swimming with my sister and our cousin in Caroga Lake or picnics with my children on the lawn during summer vacation (usually BLT’s and milk). Sometimes such recollections even spur me to write a letter to someone who may share my memory of a sunny hour. How do you handle gloomy days?
WHEN THE SKIES ARE GRAY
When the skies are gray
As skies are gray today,
I think of the brightest flowers
I have ever seen
Spread on grassy green,
And my heart will be glad for hours.
When the skies are gray,
As skies are gray today,
I dream of a woodland lane,
Where there’s bird song sweet
And sunbeams at my feet,
And my heart soon forgets the rain.
When storm clouds come your way,
Recall an Autumn day,
A day when the leaves are gay
Under vaulted blue,
And ’twill comfort you
And your heart will feel young, not gray.
When skies turn to blue,
As skies ‘most always do,
And my heart lifts in thankful praise,
I appreciate
Why I had to wait
For the contrast of sunny days.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to love and praise You even on gray and gloomy days. Show me the many blessings of Your perfect will in the weather of each day and help me to rejoice in whatever You send along.
