Read: Lamentations 3:22-26
One of the wonderful discoveries God has given me from His Word is that waiting on Him, for Him, in Him is surrounded with many of His promises. He never calls us to an activity without showing us the promise of rewards. The writer of Hebrews sums it up in chapter 11, verse 6, “But without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that cometh to God must believe that He is,and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” In this precipitous life and hurry-up culture in which we live, the ‘immediate’ demands our attention. There is always something which calls upon our action NOW, and the art of waiting on the Lord seems lost in the shuffle. God says, “Wait,” over and over and over again to His people. Much of faith must necessarily be a waiting, for faith is not faith at all if we can see the way clearly and the appropriate results at the end of the path. We like to be seen as `busy for the Lord’, even as Martha of Bethany did, but Jesus told her that the greatest activity, yes, ACTIVITY, we can have for Him is to wait upon Him.
WAIT
When one you love kills all your dreams,
And all the things you do, it seems, fail,
`Tis then you must forsake your schemes
And, looking to the best God deems, wait.
When enemies your life surround,
And heart and soul, both losing ground, quail,
`Tis then God’s chariots abound,
And they know where you’re to be found…wait.
When folks their angry words would spout
And you, wrapped up in self and doubt, rail,
`Tis then you must let praise flow out
And, seeking blessings all about, wait.
When darkness overclouds your way,
And you, in seeking God’s bright ray, hail,
Know that He hears and is your stay.
He changes darkness into day…wait.
Prayer: Dear Lord, teach me to wait upon You.
