November 25th

Read: Psalms 68:19

What do you remember of past events? The ugly, hateful, boring, or unpleasant times? Or do you remember those wonderful benefits which are yours if you are in Christ, those things which cause rejoicing even in dismal circumstances?

For instance, I remember having the old-fashioned measles as a child, the shades drawn to darken the room and the feverish feeling, but the benefits were Grandma carrying milk-toast to me on her pretty round tray painted with palm trees silhouetted against an orange sky. I also had a little brass bell with a tiny hammer right near my bed to summon help when needed.

It is the same in adult life. We suffer trials and sorrows, but we can see the benefits which are always there if we look with trusting eyes and hearts. The Lord brings us His most wonderful blessing in our darkest moment … His Presence.

SUMMER SOUVENIRS
On those long hot days full of summer sun
When the light with golden thread is spun,
I set aside some sunny hours
In a place deep in my heart,
Bright warm times of sky and flowers,
To use when cold days start.

When the wild winds howl on a wintry day
And the sky lowers dark and snow whirls gray,
I call them forth from my memory,
Those hours under bright blue skies,
And let them warm the day for me
And bring me some butterflies.

Prayer: Help me, Lord, to remember all Your precious benefits in my life instead of all the troublous times.
