May 3rd
Our lives are full of activity. As women we are called upon for regular daily duties, whether at home or in the workplace. Then emergency situations arise which also call upon our energy, ingenuity, and time. Often we are left wondering how to cope.
My own solution has been to take what I call ‘mini-vacations’ daily. These are moments when I mentally and physically forsake this stressful day for some time with the Lord. Sometimes it is a few minutes outside enjoying a summer day sitting on a rock or stump with a cool drink. Sometimes it is a brief walk along our road admiring the neighbors’ gardens or swinging in a hammock under the trees in our yard … just a few minutes to realign myself with God and still my heart, to refresh my soul in all of His loveliness.
ONLY THEN
Only when my mind’s at ease
Can I hear the morning breeze
Moving through the meadow grass;
Only then I hear Thee pass.
Only when my heart is still
Can I hear the laughing rill;
Only then sounds bird-song clear;
Only then Thy voice I hear.
Only when my soul’s at rest
Can I hear Thy peace expressed
In the tree toad’s lullaby
And the silence of night’s sky.
Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be still inside so that I can know Your presence in the daily struggles of life.
