July 3rd
Read: Matt. 5:43-48; Rev. 2:25-26; Luke 12:16-21; Prov. 25:3-4
While we were in England for four years, the lives of our children and grandchildren went on as usual. The grandchildren grew and changed. One did not even recognize us when we returned! Our youngest son walked into my daughter’s home on our first evening back, and I wondered to myself, “Who is that nice-looking fellow?”!!!! He had filled out and was wearing glasses, things I had not realized about him from letters and phone calls. There were gaps in our knowledge of him and in his knowledge of us. Some of those gaps have never been closed.
God has no gaps in His knowledge of us, nor in His wisdom or love or any other facet of Himself. He has infinite knowledge and a desire to close any gaps which are between us and Him because of our rebellion or disobedience. He even made the first move to close the gap by sending Jesus to die. (John 3:16) Like the prodigal son we must turn away from sin, self, and the world and move towards Him. He will meet us on the way! (Luke 15:11-24)
GAPS
Youth’s great exuberance
Often demands
Where age, with acceptance,
Just understands
Oft wealthy affluence
With nothing will part
Where a child, in sweet innocence,
Offers his heart.
The man of experience
Oft hesitates
Where blind perseverance
Success penetrates.
The world in indifference
Goes its own way
Where God’s child, with confidence,
Love doth display.
Prayer: Dear Father, I need to know You in a deeper way so that any gap between us may be closed. Please help me.
