October 4th

Read: Luke 6:35-38; Romans 7

If, as we read in Romans above, we can do those things we really don’t want to do (as Paul said), then others in our home or church or community, have the same problem … that inner battle we all fight daily. That is why forgiveness is so important to us and to others. It is so important that Jesus died so that God might forgive us. We must, in turn, give and forgive.

GIVING
Giving is a seed you sow
In love to spread God’s Word.
It glorifies our Lord, you know,
If you don’t expect reward.

Don’t look for something in return
When you must first forgive.
Just hope that others then will learn
That you know how to live.

For when you first forgive in love,
Obeying Christ’s own Word,
He’ll send forgiveness from above
And you will see the Lord.

When you don’t judge an enemy,
But love as Jesus taught,
Perhaps that enemy will see
His efforts are for naught.

For when we trust in God’ great power,
Obeying His command,
He’ll help us in our darkest hour
Our enemy to withstand.

Do good and lend; with mercy go;
With greater measure give;
Condemn not; love; give thanks; and lo,
Your vine will flourish and live.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to give and to forgive as You did for me, lovingly and completely.
