Wives are not exempt from God’s instructions. Wives are instructed to submit themselves unto their own husbands, as unto the Lord (Ephesians 5). That means that wives are to be willingly involved in all facets of their husbands lives. A relationship based on the love of a husband should be a responsive relationship. Responding not only to physical desires, but also to the hurts and needs, the joys and victories, and the plans of the husband bring a wife into that one-flesh experience which is so lacking in many marriages today. God also instructs a wife to reverence her husband! (Ephesians 5) That means respecting his opinions, his leadership, and his very person … just because he is her husband, not looking to find her own expectations in any given circumstance but seeking his fulfillment, because in that lies her safety, her protection, her well-being. These days not many wives see themselves in such a role, but even a working mother or a career woman, if she is wise, will reverence her husband and respect and uphold his decisions for the family. In God’s eyes that husband is responsible for the well-being of all the family (Ephesians 5). A wife who strays from that principle is opening the family to attack from within and from without.

THE REFINER
Unworthy, yea, my very life, unworthy in Your sight,
Yet You are able by Your love to polish me so bright
That I will glow where’er I go, reflecting Your pure light.
0, Jesus, burnish all of me, so head to toe I’ll shine,
Each facet, every gift You lend, each part You must refine,
Until in all the world not one will doubt that I am Thine.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me in Your role for me within my family, the one which You have given me. Polish me, Father, to shine within my home.
