October 27th
Read: 1 Cor. 1:18-25 and Matthew 5:10-12
Let’s face it; going against the world is a risky business. People don’t understand the cross. They don’t even understand what real love is all about! As we live a Christian life, one permeated with God’s Word, love, and our obedience, we are apt to be persecuted. Jesus said that we must expect this. He experienced it too. So did Paul and most of Jesus’ disciples.
If we are to be faithful to God in this life, we are to proclaim the cross and the love which sent Jesus to it. We are to love Him that much.
EVENING PRAYER
Oh Lord, each day I come to Thee
And find a solace there
For all pain and humility
A child of Yours must bear.
The world reacts with raillery
To one who walks Your way,
Thinks foolish to extremity
The things I do and say,
But, Lord, You bring serenity
And wipe away each tear.
You are my one security,
My hedge against all fear.
Lord, bring me to maturity.
Each day my wounds repair.
Refine, O Lord, and temper me
That I Your love might share.
Let sharing love my mission be,
The law that I obey.
Help me show Your eternity
In obedient love, I pray.
Prayer: Dear Lord, teach me how to love You more deeply and to serve You more each day.
