March 21st
Read: Isaiah 26:19; Philippians 3:2,3
The change of seasons is a true blessing to me. The first traces of Spring are eagerly sought as March proceeds towards the equinox and earth stretches awake. The first fresh green of leaf or grass, that first indication of new life in a furry pussy-willow bud or a snowdrop, victorious over snow, cold, and dead, wetly layered leaves, speaks of resurrection to me and hope, hope for the growth of summer and the harvest to come.
Jesus Christ’s bursting from the tomb after dying on the cross for our sins was the sign of hope for ages to come. That victory over death’s cold grip required not a man of giant proportions, strong in battle, but rather a meek man, gentle in His ways, lowly, pure as the snowdrop’s white petals, harmless as a dove, but with the authority and power of God to overcome that last obstacle, death. His victory has given new hope to a world of sin and death, creating in the lives of believers growth, harvest, and hope for eternal life with God.
Springtime’s coming! Springtime’s coming!
Fragrance rare! Hear the rill,
Songbirds homing, Ice-free, bubbling
Nesting there. Down the hill
In the green trees. Through the fern frond,
‘Mongst the flowers Through the grass
Buzzing drone bees To the mill pond,
Hum for hours. Smooth as glass.
Springtime’s coming! Springtime’s coming!
See the green In my heart
Of earth’s carpet, Easter’s promise
Fresh and clean. Plays a part.
Feel the light breeze Life’s renewing
From the hill Comes to me
Where the fruit trees’ At first viewing
Blossoms frill. Of greenery.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for the springtime and its promises. Help us to seek out your promise of new life through Jesus Christ. Amen.
