There are all sorts of walls which we encounter. Walls of discrimination, of custom, of tradition, of financial ability, of health problems, of educational shortcomings. When we meet them we tend to use a ladder, find a route around, or cut a door through. Sometimes we let them stop us from forward motion! Often we are able to succeed in surmounting the problem of a wall with wisdom and involvement.

In the spiritual realm, however, walls or barriers cannot be circumvented like that. Spiritual walls must fall, be broken down, before we have liberty to proceed. The walls of Jericho fell because God’s directions were followed to the letter. Read about it in Joshua. The walls which we ourselves have erected to maintain our private places within are really prison walls inside of which we cower. Only God can break them down by our obedience to His directions. That means yielding everything we are to Jesus Christ. Only by yielding are we set completely free!

BEYOND THE WALLS
The heart lifts,
And walls no more surround.
The mind drifts
Where pleasant vales are found.
The scene shifts
To ever higher ground.
By God’s gifts
The prisoner is unbound.

Prayer: Dear Father, show me the walls still within my heart, anything which hinders our full fellowship and my freedom to be what Your goodness desires of me.
