June 16th

Read: Isa. 60:1 and Isa. 27:6; Eph. 5:1-2;  1 Thessalonians 5:15-24 ; 2 Corinthians 10:5

Sunflowers are so named because their faces follow the sunlight, as well as for their yellow petals. When the sun rises in the morning, they turn towards it; at noon their faces turn up; and by sundown they face the west!

Do I open myself to Jesus, the Light of the World, like that? Do I seek to follow Him all day long, forsaking the world and self to do so? Am I so under the control of the Holy Spirit that He has me facing Jesus at all times? Are You?

THE BLOSSOM AND THE LIGHT
Blossoming, blooming is the one
Who opens his insensate soul,
Who follows light from God the Son,
And lets His Spirit take control.

He opens first to seek the light
And stays to bask in warmth of Grace;
And then he finds his blackest night
Illumined by the Savior’s face.

With that sweet light, by Spirit spread
Through every fiber, every pore,
He’s nurtured, disciplined, and led
Away from self to love explore.

And Love doth feed his growing vine,
Strengthening so he may endure,
Fitting him to God’s design
So fruit may flourish and mature.

Prayer: Dear Lord, keep me open to Your light and following closely after You.
