December 18th

Read: Psalm 27:1; 36:9; 119:105; 89:15; John 1:1-5

Christmas lights on a tree, on a doorway, in a window, twinkling all around town, are so much a part of the sights of Christmas. Bells in a church steeple, on a door, on a horse-drawn sleigh, rung by a Santa in a doorway, even tied on shoe-laces, are so much a part of the sounds of Christmas. These are the sights and sounds I grew up with when I enjoyed the holiday as a child. Christmas carols were also always present with their words of hope and cheer.

“Hype,” ’tis said by many who are jaded by the commercialism of Christmas today. “Wonder to the eyes and ears of a child,” say I. All of them point in some way to Jesus, the best Friend any child can have.

BELLS OF CHRISTMAS
Bells of Christmas, sweet and clear,
Ring your message, “Christ is here!”
Toll and jingle; peal glad song,
“Christ has come to right the wrong!”

Lights of Christmas, twinkle bright;
Shine on all this holy night.
Illuminate as did His star;
Draw hearts to Jesus from afar.

Peace of Christmas, come to stay;
Fill our lives this joyous day.
Holy Spirit, Heavenly Dove’
Descend with God’s great gift of love.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to use all things to turn eyes towards Jesus.
