Read: Proverbs 31:25-26
My grandmother’s presence in our household during my early years was a great blessing. Having two families and three generations in her house could not always have been easy for her, but she loved the Lord and knew how to love all of us. She entered into the lives of two small girls with gusto and imagination and much of God’s love. She cared for my sister and me while our parents worked. She cared enough to share Jesus with me when I was eight and to love us fiercely until the Lord took her when I was twelve.
LEGACY
When Grandma came to say,”Goodnight.”
She kissed me hard and hugged me tight.
She held me as I said my prayers
And listened as I shared my cares.
Sometimes I’d watch her while she’d mend
And then she’d tell me of her Friend …
How Jesus listened to her pray
And helped her live from day to day.
In June we’d sit and we’d shell peas
With lightning flashing through the trees
And thunder rolling ‘cross the sky,
So grand it almost made me cry.
Then she would keep me unafraid
By telling me that God had made
The earth and sea and outer space
And all of Nature had its place.
Often we’d garden in her plot,
Sowing seeds in each special spot
Or pulling weeds from ‘mongst the flowers.
Sometimes it seemed we’d work for hours.
I’d stay because she needed me …
Twas something I could plainly see.
How fine it was, when blossoms came,
To listen as she told their names.
Then I’d remember every row
That we had planted weeks ago
And know each seed that we’d put there
Had come to life in beauty fair.
And then God took her to her rest …
But not till she gave me her best,
She showed me more of love and praise
Than any other all my days.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for my Grandma Hille. I pray that I might leave such a legacy with my grandchildren.
