Read: Psalm 90:1-17; Mark 10:14-15
When my eldest grand-daughter, Jamie, was little, she revived in me that search for wonder in little events that I had known in my younger years. She was only two years removed from eternity when I wrote this poem. She is a young woman now, but I still recall her baby words of wonder as she explored God’s world in the out-of-doors and in our loving church. My Heavenly Father spoke wonder to me through Jamie.
ETERNITY AND A TWO-YEAR-OLD
“Colors! Colors!” Jamie cries
As clouded sunset paints the skies.
“Robbit! Robbit!” I agree
As watchful bunny turns to flee.
“Moon! Moon!” she’ll point and shout
As moon and clouds play in and out.
My heart lifts with sweet surprise
As I see wonder through her eyes.
Her spirit of discovery
Renews that search inside of me,
And “Ma-ma” has no lingering doubt
That Jamie knows what God’s about.
“Jesus amu,” loud she sings ”
Bobble, bobble.” Smiles she brings
With a hymnal on her lap.
Then she yields to take a nap
With “Bocky” held close in her hand
And dreams to dream in Wonderland.
Then in my tired heart wonder springs
As I am brushed by angel wings.
I feel God’s love around us wrap
As I relax and tensions snap.
When we’re together, hand in hand,
Time restrains its running sand.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for the children in my life. Teach me to appreciate them and to see You working in them. Please keep me faithful to steer them in Your direction.
