December 23rd
Read: Romans 8:28
When the winter storms come, we can always be sure that God is in charge! There may be inconvenience. Electric power may fail. The furnace may fail. Perhaps one’s car may not start. Transportation becomes difficult. Walking is treacherous. Snow must be shovelled from walks and drives. The wind may bring drifts and numbing cold. All of these may be true, but man’s inconvenience does not mean that God is not in charge. The storm has His purpose, perhaps even more than one purpose in it.
After the storm there is usually beauty to behold, and there are wonderful tales of God’s providential care to be told. He always sets things right after the storms of life too. Look for the beauty.
AFTER A WINTER STORM
The sky is blue, and the clouds puff white;
The air seems washed as the sun shines bright
After a winter storm.
The snowy fields clothed in trackless white
Are as lustrous pearl in the clear bright light
After a winter storm.
The shadowed drifts are a wondrous sight
Where their wind-spun peaks lift to towering height
After a winter storm.
The aftermath of God’s awesome might
Is the dazzling truth that He sets things right
After a winter storm.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the storms of life, without which we could not appreciate the calm. Thank You for Your power over all of creation. Help me to see You in all facets of life.
