December 26th

Read: 1 Timothy 4:1-6

Children are able to imagine wonderful things, things which may transport them beyond an adult’s understanding. One of my nieces had an imaginary friend who went everywhere with her. If she rode in the car, space must be carefully saved for her friend. It was make-believe carried to the extreme, but her imagination, applied to Scripture when she was older, helped her to understand and glean all that was there for her. When her first marriage fell apart, she was able to endure in Christ, raise her son, and marry another man with God’s blessing, partly because her active imagination had not been thwarted when she was a child. She could look expectantly to God for some miracles.

THE ISLE OF MAKE-BELIEVE
When children go to Make-Believe
They leave their world behind
To travel o’er that wondrous isle
And great adventure find.

They seek the cloudways of the sky
To find the rainbow’s gold
And search a sunken pirate ship
For treasure lost of old.

They may become whate’er they will
As they wander in that place . . .
A lion tamer in a cage
Or an astronaut in space.

They may dress up in Mother’s clothes
And be a mother too
Or crawl upon the ground and be
A tiger in the zoo.

They may find dreams which have no end
Or reach out for a star.
They may create an unseen friend
Or discover who they are.

Wherever laughter warms the heart,
Wherever minds conceive,
The chances are those folks once knew
The Isle of Make-Believe.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for our imaginations built into us by Your love. Allow me to use mine fully for You.
