The various seeds on earth represent to me God’s life and His thoughts toward us. He has a plan for each one. The oat awns, when they reach the soil, actively burrow into the earth to gain a foothold.! The cones of the jackpine will not open to release their seeds except in fire. Then they are released to fall upon the scorched earth in order to bring life to the forest again. The milkweed pod opens to release puffy white silky umbrellas with the seeds attached to be blown wherever the wind carries them. Each is intended to be borne to an earthly home where it can nestle and put down roots. The wondrous ways of seeds teach us of our awesome God and His ways with us.

THE MILKWEED
As seeds float forth from a milkweed pod
To go where the breezes blow,
So love thoughts spring from the heart of God
And towards His children flow.

As those downy seeds are borne along
By the currents of Autumn air,
So His love is borne on angel song
And the whispered words of prayer.

As the milkweed seeds find fertile soil
To flourish and spring anew,
So loving thoughts in a heart uncoil,
Nourished by mercy’s dew.

And as new plants are rooted deep
To produce more seeds to blow,
So His Spirit grows and new love thoughts sweep
The world as they overflow.

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank You for Your life in all living things and the variety of ways in which we are taught of Your love. Help me to see Your love thoughts active in my life and to You more every day.
