The law of the harvest is sure. If you sow corn you do not get beans at harvest time. I learned that at an early age working with my grandmother in her gardens. Sunflower seeds did not yield petunias. God tells us in His Word that the same thing is true of actions and attitudes. If you use a sharp tongue with folks, you will not get smiles in return … If you are wasteful with your money, your savings account will be small or even non-existent. On the other side of the coin, however, gentle ways and kindly words reap pleasurable experiences.

A HANDFUL OF SEEDS
God gave me a handful of most precious seeds.
He told me to sow them as words and as deeds.
I sowed where He told me. In faith I obeyed,
And there grew up a garden where blossoms ne’er fade.
I planted some love in the furrows of care
And I harvested friendship two people can share.
I planted some truth in the heart of a child
And watched him grow straight e’en as others
grew wild.

I planted some mercy where sin had defiled
And harvested joy when that cheerless face smiled.
I planted some hope where once grew despair
And watched as a burden grew lighter to bear.
I watered the garden with tears, and I prayed,
And I waited in faith e’en when bloom was delayed.
I planted the garden, but God hoed the weeds,
And He gave the increase to His precious seeds.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me to be a faithful sower of good in the lives of those around me. Keep me from negative attitudes and self-centered actions.
