July 5th
Read: Heb. 6:17-20; Isa. 41:13-14; Psalm 121, 125, 126
The great Quaker poet, John Greenleaf Whittier, penned these few lines entitled “Faith”. … “Nothing before, nothing behind, the feet of faith step on the seeming void and find the Rock beneath.”
God always asks us to do something which we cannot do without His help! That is where faith enters the picture. Do you think Noah knew how his cruise was going to end? He built the ark, but God did the rest. Do you think that Moses expected the Red Sea to divide its waters when he told Israel, “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord”? He lifted his rod, but God did the rest. Do we know exactly what is going to happen at the Rapture of the Church, or what to expect tomorrow, for that matter? No, of course not. We must walk by faith, our life-line to God, and He will do the rest.
MY TETHER
On my tether of faith
I dare venture out
Into alien place
After conquering doubt.
Some tethers are fine,
While others are stout,
But God’s hand on the line
All danger doth flout.
On my measureless rope
Of faith, I’m still free
To work and to hope
Unto eternity.
My life-line will hold
In the stormiest sea
Until, lo and behold,
There’s a harbor for me.
Prayer: Dear God, help me to take steps in faith which will bring glory to Your name, even though I cannot see where my foot will fall.
