April 6th

Read: Psalm 28:7; Psalm 33:1-10

Each of us must locate the things which really feed our lives. Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” (John 6:48), so whatever “foods” we choose as good, must line up with Him somehow.

I cannot go wrong in my “diet” if I feed upon God’s Word as my main course, and I will never be looking for strange food, because His Word offers such variety. For me music must be part of my “diet” too. It adds zest to my life just the way a salad course adds zest to a dinner of meat and potatoes. It gives my life a fullness which would be lacking without it. The dessert course for me is made up on the smiles of those I love. Some of those shared smiles are so precious that I savour them for a long, long time.

Your “diet” may consist of different “foods” than mine does, but we must all be careful to avoid those things which destroy rather than build our lives, things like hatred, bitterness, revenge, and selfishness. Take a good look at your “diet”.

SOUL FOOD
I think upon the things which feed my soul,
The things which let me know that I am whole,
And there are three.
Three things which stir my heart down deep inside,
Three things which enter in and long abide
To impress me.

God’s Holy Scriptures light life’s path for me.
They teach me of His love and set me free
To praise His name.
They feed my deepest being with His love.
They tender peace and point the way above
Without His blame

Music touches body, mind, and heart.
It taps my feet and causes tears to start.
It fills me up.
It may be Sousa, Strauss, or my own song;
It may be hymn of praise or sing-along
On which I sup.

The smiles of those I love are ne’er forgot.
I keep the ones they’ve shared in a deep spot
For when I hurt.
It blesses me to know that they are there
To be remembered when life’s not so fair.
They’re my dessert.

Prayer: Dear Lord, keep my soul food healthy and pleasant so that I might grow stronger for you.
