Read: Hebrews 13:8 and James 1:17
During the Great Depression, in which I grew up, our family knew lack, but never hunger or deprivation of our basic needs. Why? … Hard work, wise stewardship with what God gave us, and an indwelling faith in His constancy to provide for all of us. Our family moved in with my grandparents in an effort to save Grandma’s house. We lived several happy years there, but the house was lost anyway. We all lived in a rented house in a poorer neighborhood where we found new friends, and we were not worse off. Why? … The same reasons as before, especially our constant God.
CONSTANT
In this tumultuous world there is no constant but for change.
Variable winds around us blow;
Unbridled currents o’er us flow;
And perverse Chance doth strive, it seems, our plans to rearrange.
Beneath the turbulence and strife, way down within the deep,
An anchor holds ‘gainst current strong
So we need not be swept along
Bobbing in capricious winds where rapids boil and leap.
It is the Changeless One we know who’s constant to the end,
Who keeps us steady as we go,
Whose peace surrounds us e’en in woe.
It is the Christ who stands so true, our Master andour Friend.
Prayer: Dear God, in this world of inconsistencies I appreciate Your constancy. Help me to be constant to You.
