January 9th
Read: Ephesians 1:18-20 and Ephesians 2:8-10; 1 John 5:4
Most of us are pretty good at launching out on our own initiative before we check in with God. Joshua did it with the Gibeonites (Josh. 9). The disciples went fishing on their own hook (John 21:1-11). Lots of toil and trouble with no accomplishment was the result.
UNLIMITED WITH GOD
When circumstances need my best,
I labor hard to meet the test.
I draw upon each skill I’ve learned
And buff each merit badge I’ve earned.
All my being comes to bear,
But I face limits everywhere!
When I’ve used up the skills I know, I
turn to God, and prayer doth flow.
On the instant strivings cease,
For God is with me, bringing peace,
And suddenly relaxed, I find
That everything has been aligned!
Twould better be when I begin
To ask my Lord to help me win,
Not to wait till efforts fail
But to allow Him to prevail
Right from the start, the very first,
Instead of struggling through the worst.
When I let go and let each gift
He’s given me my spirit lift,
Let His strong arms carry my load,
Let His power in my life explode
Into full action, things get done,
And, miracle! the victory’s won!
Prayer: Dear Father, I desire Your guidance and power in the circumstances of my life. I confess my weakness in this area. Please help me.
