October 11th

Read: John 15:10-13 and Psalm 16

Sometimes we get so deeply involved in today’s problems and responsibilities that we lose the fresh view of things which we have when we are keeping our eyes on Christ and trusting deeply in the Father. When this occurs to me, I pray for the Lord to show me how to give to others in some way. It is one of the activities of love to give to others. I allow the Holy Spirit to lead me through this exercise of virtue, and my joy returns.

LOST COIN
When you feel that special “something”
Has slipped away from you,
A certain bloom of freshness
That’s born as morning dew,

When your mind searches corners
Expecting there to find
The coin of sweet contentment,
And darkness makes you blind,

When joy seems quite elusive,
When “hurry” fills your day,
When others seem abusive
And you know sharp dismay,

`Tis time to turn your thinking
Away from self and gain
And give a thought to others
Who may be feeling pain.

For only through your giving,
As Christ gave self for you,
Can all God’s joy of living
Return with peace anew.

Prayer: Dear Lord, show me how to give of myself for You that others may be blest and that I may continue in the joy of Your salvation.
