May 11th

Read: Deut. 30:19-20; Isaiah 6:1-6; Phil. 3:14

The call to supper was one I always answered willingly. If, for some reason, I was far enough away from home that I couldn’t hear Mother, the call was still there! It was a gnawing in my stomach, a reminder to head for home.
It is the same with a call from God, either a call to repentance or a call to service. If I do not answer it when He calls, I am constantly reminded that I should by a gnawing in my heart, the very core of my being.

THE CALL
When ’tis God’s hand that writes upon
The tablet of your heart,
You must not turn to your own way,
Must not your own course chart.

He writes with ink that will not fade;
His etching will not dim.
When once He calls, be not dismayed
Just give your life to Him.

The purpose of His plan for you
Is there upon your heart,
So choose His blessed will to do,
A bright new life to start.

He will not let you e’er forget
The secret writing there.
‘Twill call you back whene’er you stray
Or when you fail to dare.

His call to serve is always there.
It doth your being fill.
The choice of life and blessings rich
Must be your act of will.

Prayer: Dear God, keep me inclined to You that I may ever heed and respond to Your call.
