When I was in High School I had sixteen blocks between home and school. On good days I usually rode my bicycle with my books in the basket and my cello often carried in one hand. When I walked, I carried my books in one arm (no bag) and the cello under my other one. Believe me, I had to stop often and shift the load!
In my walk with the Lord Jesus Christ, I have learned to shift the load onto Him. After all, He is my yokefellow. Sometimes I find that the burdens I have been carrying are not mine to carry at all! They are His! I am prone to picking them up and starting out as if they were mine. Then He comes along and says, “Here! Let me carry that!”
SHIFTING THE LOAD
In laying at my Savior’s feet
The pain and sorrows that are sent,
I turn my back upon defeat,
And joy comes, followed by content.
Whatever load He takes from me
To ease my suffering and my care,
‘Tis but a part of Calvary,
Where Life and Love o’ercame the snare.
He bore the burdens of all sin,
The crushing weight of all our wrong,
In one obedient act to win
So we might share the triumph song.
I’m unencumbered now and free
To draw new life from out His well.
My burden lifts and all fears flee
And peace within my heart doth dwell.
Prayer: Dear Lord, show me how to shift my burdens to You.
