January 26th

Read: Matthew 26:69-75; Matthew 27: 11-14;  Matthew 27:27-35; Matthew 28:1-10

When I ponder the days of Jesus’ arrest, trial, and crucifixion, I am always amazed at the comfort I derive from those events. They are viable, current, and pertinent to my life and my Christian walk. I can truly say that I glory in the cross of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

THE TRAIL BLAZER

When I think my burden heavy,
I just stop to think of Thee
And the heavy cross You carried
On the path to Calvary.
Then the heavy load I bear, Lord,
Seems lighter suddenly.

When there’s pain in all my parts,
Lord, And I’d cry in agony,
I remember how You suffered
As they nailed You to the tree,
And, somehow, the balm You offer
Helps ease my misery.

When I stand before the mockers
Who revile my words for Thee,
I recall Your mute acceptance
In the face of perfidy,
And I know that I must love them
Even as You loved for me.

When my friends forsake and leave, Lord,
As I know adversity,
I recall a cock that crowed once
And how Peter turned to flee;
Oh, ’tis then I feel Your presence
And know serenity.

When the midnight dark doth threaten
And I face eternity,
When my hours on earth are numbered,
I will look Your light to see,
And ’twill lead me through the shadows
To Heaven’s boundary.

For You prepared the way, Lord,
And You, Lord, hold the key;
Yes, from the loathsome grave,
Lord, You rose again for me.
Because You fought that battle,
From fear I am set free.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your ‘obedience unto death’ on the cross, for bearing my sins and their punishment. I thank You for removing the fear of death from my life and replacing it with the glory of Your cross.
