Not only does Jesus live, but He came into my life when I was eight years old. I had broken my sister’s doll in a prank which was mean and thoughtless. She broke into tears, and I was filled with remorse. My grand-mother, who took care of us while our parents worked, punished me in the time-honored way. In my guilt I asked her why I behaved the way I did. Lovingly she told me that I was born a sinner, was in bondage to sin, and that only faith in Jesus, who died to set me free, could save me from the penalty of sin, eternal separation from God in Hell. Of course, she said these things in a way that I could understand at my tender age using John 3:16. I knew about Jesus because of regular attendance at our church and Sunday School, but He had not entered my life until that day. He has been working on perfecting me for sixty years! I am so glad that Jesus lives and that He came to me.
HE LIVES!
He lives! ‘Tis true! He tells me so,
And His abundant blessings flow.
He’s with me everywhere I go.
‘Tis strange so many do not know.
They say He doesn’t live at all,
That He can’t hear us when we call,
That He can’t help should ill befall,
That we from our own depths must crawl.
Men their own selfish ways embrace,
Each thinking he must have first place;
They’ve never seen His saving grace
Because dark sin-clouds hide His face.
Oh, I was one with them, akin
To those whose ways are deep in sin,
But then God’s holy light broke in
And Christ brought me new life within.
Then all the sin-clouds fell away
And my eyes saw Him bright as day.
I know now He’ll ever stay
If I but love Him and obey.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for my salvation and for loving me all these years. Help me as I seek You in an even deeper way.
