Life is a river. It is the milieu in which the child of God lives. It is a river named Jesus which bears us along to revelation, to light. The rest of the world lives in condemnation and the darkness of spiritual death because they are in rebellion against their Creator. The worst of it is that they don’t even realize it. No matter how great the darkness of the world around us, the children of God cannot be overcome by it because we are hidden in the Light of the World, Jesus Christ.
RIVER OF LIFE
A freshening spate of goodness and life
Washes me free of fear and strife,
Cleanses and purges from all defeat
And deposits me at Jesus’ feet.
Joy floods in on a stream of love,
And over the river sails the Dove
With its olive twig of victory,
Tokening grace and peace for me.
The river springs from God, the Source,
And bears me ever on my course
From beneath the cross to eternity,
Progress designed by Him for me.
Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for the Light in which I live and move and have my being. May my life shine for You in this dark world.
