December 7th
Read: Psalm 107:20-30, 35, 40 and Psalm 36:8-9
When an orchestra tunes before a performance, it is to bring all of the instruments in harmony with each other. The conductor’s baton is the way of keeping the orchestra in rhythmic harmony.
God’s world is an orderly one, a harmonic one. Things proceed in an orderly fashion within His creation. When we see that in the world around us, we begin to arrange our thoughts in a more orderly fashion. At least, I do. Even the human body is an orderly entity, as different as we may be from one another. Thinking about all these things leads me directly to God.
ATTUNED TO GOD
If you are attuned to the land and the sea,
If in a meadow great beauty you see,
If you can spy where a roebuck has trod,
You are attuned to God.
If you’re attuned to the sound of the spheres,
If birdsong and water are sweet to your ears,
If you like cattails and pale milkweed pod,
You are attuned to God.
If you’ve no fear under thunder-struck sky,
If you feel stirred by a loon’s lonely cry,
If, as the stars circle by, you feel awed,
You are attuned to God.
If you see His order in all you survey,
If you know Christ as the only true Way,
If blessings appear as His light spreads abroad,
You are attuned to God.
Prayer: Dear God, keep me attuned and in harmony with You. Help me to produce orderly patterns in my life.
