September 9th
Read: Hebrews 12:1-2 and Hebrews 1:1-3; Matt. 6:22-24 and Matt. 14:28-31; Revelation 1:9-18
Once my eyes fastened upon Jesus Christ as He is revealed in Scripture and I gave my life into his hands, it would seem that I should keep my gaze upon Him. Usually I do, but sometimes the immediate circumstances tear my eyes from His dear face even as Peter, when walking upon the water towards Jesus, dropped his eyes to look at the swirling waves. It is then that fear is apt to arise within me or I lose my way. It is then when my mouth speaks unloving words to those I love, or I am distracted from God’s plans for me. When I look at the world around me or at the people who surround me, my view of Jesus dims.
KEEP LOOKING UNTO JESUS
Keep looking unto Jesus.
Gaze full upon His face.
He will gently lead you
And fear He will erase.
Keep looking unto Jesus,
Expression of God’s grace,
With eyes that never waver
From the pathway He doth trace.
Keep looking unto Jesus,
Through world that would debase,
Until His arms enfold you
Within His sweet embrace.
Prayer: Lord, You know that I cannot look in two directions at once. Keep my eyes upon Jesus, and not straying away to other things.
